Aly Raisman To The Rescue! Individual Gold Saves Team USA From Ending Gymnastics On A Sour Note

Team USA Gymnastics

Good news first: Aly Raisman rocked the floor today on the last day of gymnastics competition in London. Aly became the first American woman ever to win the floor exercise at the Olympics, after increasing her degree of difficulty and shining in her routine to attain a score of 15.6. We’re always taken aback by incredible individuals like Aly. To execute skill and athleticism in such an immaculate way under pressure is just mind blowing. When asked how she was able to deliver a routine like that she said, “I felt like I had nothing to lose. It was going to be my last memory for London, so I just wanted to make it count and enjoy it.” As if earning the gold wasn’t enough, earlier in the day she won a bronze medal in the balance beam, which came after winning an appeal with the judges and then a tiebreaker with Catalina Ponor of Romania. (After she lost the tie-breaker for bronze in the all-around, this was a huge relief!)

And then there’s the bad news. We’re really happy Aly did so well, because the story wasn’t as happy for her teammates. All-around gold medalist Gabby Douglas had a disappointing day, finishing seventh on balance beam after a nasty fall. Yesterday, Gabby also failed to medal on the uneven parallel bars with a 14.900 score that left her in eighth place. The bars are supposed to be where Gaby really struts her stuff and where she got her nickname, “Flying Squirrel.”

Gabby admitted that she got distracted by all of the attention she was getting from all different media outlets. It seemed like every celeb was tweeting at her, wanting to be her best friend! But she isn’t leaving with bad feelings. She knows how amazing it is that she is the first African-American to win the all-around title and that the term “world champion” will be attached to her name forever.

This past Sunday, Gabby sat with her teammates in the stands and cheered on McKayla Maroney, who was expected to win gold in the vault. But Maroney had an uncharacteristic and horrifying error. As she went for her second vault, her feet slipped out from underneath her and she ended up plopping down on the mat. She actually won the silver medal, which ain’t that bad, but as she wiped away mascara, she explained: ”It’s more of shock. I’m not disappointed about the silver. I’m disappointed about my performance.”

World champion Jordyn Wieber, who was expected to leave the Olympics with the most hardware of any gymnast, was seventh on floor and finished without any individual medals.

It was a rough end to the Olympics for the Fabulous Five, but we’re so proud of all of their achievements since starting out in London. It takes some pretty tough and incredibly talented chicks to kick ass as well as they did throughout the games.

Jenny McCarthy Through The Years: From Playmate Bombshell To Mom With A Mission

Jenny McCarthy broke onto the scene as the 1994 Playboy Playmate of the Year, but many of us became acquainted with her as the loud-mouthed, buxom host of MTV’s Singled Out. The combination of McCarthy’s vulgar sense of humor and pin-up good looks made her stand out in a sea of blonde actresses. She has since landed roles in numerous TV shows and films, but has made the most headlines through her Autism activism and controversial anti-vaccination stance. Politics aside, McCarthy turns 39 today and has never looked better. Let’s celebrate the bikini-lovin’ babe’s b-day with some eye candy. [Photos: MTV, Getty Images, Splash News Online]

Amber Heard Turns Heads In Red At Rum Diary Premiere

Playboy Club, Schmayboy Club. Amber Heard’s TV show got the ax last week, but she didn’t look the least bit down and out at the Rum Diary premiere at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art last night. And even with a slit up to THERE in her stunning red Elie Saab gown, she must have felt pretty covered up after all those Bunny outfits. With that dress and her hair in the most elegant bun (I want to touch it!), she’s doing her best to be triumphant screen siren and make us forget that other little project. And it’s kinda working, don’t you think?

USA Today noted that she stumbled slightly on her flowing train in those nude-colored Louboutins, and she admitted that the whole shebang was “absolutely not” easy to walk in, “But it feels great.” Take a closer look in the gallery!
